Welcome and thank you for your interest in this exciting scholarship opportunity. The Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation of Metropolitan Baltimore (KAPFMB) Scholarship Program was established by the KAPFMB Board of Directors to support high school students desiring to attend college and pursue degrees in all disciplines at an accredited academic institution.  The scholarships offered and the application process are outlined below.

General Information

The application period begins February 15, 2024, and ends April 15, 2024, at 11:59 pm. 

Applicants are required to provide:

  • Personal and academic information including community service activities
  • Two (2) letters of reference (one from a school official and the other from a non-relative)
  • Most recent student transcript (official or unofficial)
  • A written response to a specific essay question

Once the application period has ended, the online system will be closed, and all completed applications will be downloaded, compiled, and distributed for the official application review process.

All who are selected for a scholarship will be required to attend an in-person ceremony currently scheduled for June 22, 2024.

Achievement Scholars


The Achievement Scholarship is designed to acknowledge academically successful Baltimore Metropolitan Area Students who are active in the community.

To be considered candidates must be:

  • a Baltimore Metropolitan Area resident;
  • a graduating senior at a Baltimore Metropolitan Area high school;
  • at least a college freshman by the Fall/Winter term;
  • officially accepted to an accredited four-year college or university;
  • officially enrolled in the college/university within the next academic year following high school graduation, unless otherwise approved by the Foundation;
  • graduating with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) weighted on a 4.0 scale.

Lewis H. Richardson Memorial Scholarship


The Lewis H. Richardson Memorial Scholarship was created by the Honorable George L. Russell for students majoring in Education to encourage the development of future educators.

To be considered candidates must be:

  • a Baltimore Metropolitan Area resident;
  • a graduating senior at a Baltimore Metropolitan Area high school.
  • at least a college freshman by the Fall/Winter term;
  • officially accepted by an accredited academic program in Education at a four-year college or university;
  • officially enrolled in such a program within the next academic year following high school graduation, unless otherwise approved by the Foundation.
  • Graduating with at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) weighted on a 4.0 scale.

Diamond in the Rough Scholarship


The Diamonds in the Rough Scholarship is specifically for African American males who are active in their communities and schools and have shown potential for academic success.

To be considered candidates must be:

  • an African American male residing in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area;
  • a graduating senior at a Baltimore Metropolitan Area high school;
  • officially accepted by an accredited technical school, two-year or four-year college, or university;
  • officially enrolled in such an institution within the next academic year following high school graduation, unless otherwise approved by the Foundation;
  • graduating with at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) weighted on a 4.0 scale.

 Benchmark Scholars


The Benchmark Scholarship is designed to support the dependents of SUSTAINING members of the Baltimore Alumni Chapter.

To be considered candidates must be:

  • the dependent of a Sustaining member of the Baltimore Alumni Chapter, who has been sustaining for at least 5-years;
  • at least a college freshman by the Fall/Winter term;
  • officially accepted by an accredited four-year college or university;
  • officially enrolled in such a program within the next academic year following high school graduation, unless otherwise approved by the Foundation;
  • graduating with at least a 2.5 grade point cumulative grade point average (GPA) weighted on a 4.0 scale.

McPherson Memorial Scholars


The McPherson Memorial Scholarship was created to honor Mr. Terry McPherson a member of the Baltimore Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. The Scholarship was created to encourage more minority males to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) professions.

To be considered candidates must be:

  • a minority male residing in the Baltimore Metropolitan Area;
  • a graduating senior from a Baltimore Metropolitan Area high school;
  • at least a college freshman by the Fall/Winter term;
  • officially accepted by an accredited academic STEM program at a four-year college or university;
  • officially enrolled in such a program within the next academic year following high school graduation, unless otherwise approved by the Foundation;
  • graduating with at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average (GPA) weighted on a 4.0
